Diocesan Museum
The Diocesan and Capitular Museum of Terni is housed in the ancient Seminary building, built in 1653 on the initiative of Cardinal-Bishop Francesco Angelo Rapaccioli, who also undertook the renovation of the exterior of the surrounding square. The architectural project, clearly of Roman derivation, unifies the symbolic places of the diocese (Cathedral-Seminary-Bishop's Palace) in an original monumental complex consisting of a plurality of buildings constructed in different eras (from the amphitheatre to the Carmine Church), which over the centuries have acquired a particular archaeological, historical, artistic and religious relevance in the urban fabric of Terni.
LThe Museum’s main collection includes a group of paintings and sculptures from the deposits of the Capitular and the diocesan parishes. It includes pieces by Livio Agresti, Marten Stellaert, Francesco Cincinnato and other pieces signed or attributed to artists from the Umbrian-Lazio and Roman areas, such as Giovanni Battista Salvi, known as “il Sassoferrato”, Calisto Calisti, Giacinto Brandi, Girolamo Troppa, Giovanni Francesco Barla and Liborio Coccetti.
Visitors can also admire paintings in the loggia depicting sacrificial scenes and events related to the story of the prophet Jonah, which tend to be dated back to the first half of the 18th century.
