Roman Walls

Until the second half of the 19th century, the city of Terni was entirely enclosed by the Nera River, the Serra stream, and the Romanesque-medieval city walls that stretched almost 3 km to the south.

Mura romane

Only one section of the ancient walls remains intact, located along Via delle Mura, following the entire profile of the "Passeggiata." It is about 20 metres long and the technique used was an opus quadratum of travertine similar to that of other Umbrian cities (Spoleto, Perugia, Assisi), commonly dating back to the 3rd century BC.

The walls continue with the medieval section, which can be distinguished from the Roman one because it is built with much smaller stone blocks.
Short stretches can be observed near Porta Sant'Angelo and Porta Spoletina
